Paul Harvey 1919-2009

Hello Americans. This is Paul Harvey. Stand by for news. This cheery greeting heard by millions for over 50 years on ABC's Paul Harvey News and Commentary was silenced on February 28, 2009. His love for radio goes all the way back to 1933, but much more outstanding than that was Paul's love for his wife of 68 years, Lynne -- better known to his radio audience as Angel. Paul Harvey is survived by his son, Paul Harvey Jr., who ably assisted him in the news broadcast and in The Rest of the Story. Paul Harvey was a one-of-a kind icon of broadcasting which will never be duplicated.

Page one: he followed an earlier mold of one-man news broadcasts such as H. V. Kaltenborn, Edward R. Murrow, and Fulton Lewis Jr. Even during the growth of big business network news teams, his direct, Midwestern, personal style attracted millions of listeners who would not miss Paul Harvey News and Commentary. There was nothing like it anywhere on the radio dial.

Page two: Paul Harvey was unabashedly patriotic and publically praised American freedom and opportunity - not the usual fare for broadcasters today. He was proud to be an American.

Page three: As a Christian, Paul Harvey forthrightly let us know it was from God that all blessings flow - notwithstanding political correctness. Where are the broadcasters who will follow in his train?

Page four: We will miss you, Paul Harvey. Have a great eternity with your Angel.

Good Day.
