The Master Plan
(God’s Eternal Choice – Not Chance!)
Introduction:  God has a master plan for the universe a plan laid out before there was a
universe.  Although academia generally believes in “chance” as the cause of everything,
as R. C. Sproul states so well, “chance” by definition is nothing!  In stark contrast to such
illogical thinking, behind the universe is God -- rather than the “nothing” of chance.  We
ought to take great comfort in understanding that God accomplishes his master plan.
Although God permitted evil to enter his universe, He also graciously planned a way
through Christ to reconcile all things to himself, Colossians 1:19-20.
God’s master plan is …
Eternal, (Eph.1:4, 5, 11)
   A.  God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world.
  1.  The Kingdom has been prepared for all believers since the foundation of the
       world, cf. Mt. 25:34.

2.  Jesus Christ was chosen to redeem us before the foundation of the world,

cf. I Peter 1:18-21.
  3.  Jesus is the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world, Rev. 13:8
   B.   God predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, Eph.1:5.
   C.   In Christ we were chosen and predestined by God according to his plan, Eph. 1:11.
Application:  Although it is impossible for us to think like God does, we can understand
through God’s Word something of what it means for him to be omniscient/omnipotent.
Since God lives in eternity and not time, everything to God is an eternal now!  For him
there is no beginning or end-- past or future.  Although we see God’s plan as unfolding in
time, for him it is already done in eternity!  This is why the Scripture can speak of events
being accomplished before the “foundation of the world.”
In Christ, Eph. 1:3-7, 9-13.
   A.  Every part of God’s plan for the universe is carried out “in Christ”, Eph. 1:10.
   B.  For this reason, Christ is the center of Rev. 5.  Only He can accomplish the master
         plan of the Father!
For His Glory, Eph. 1:6,12,14
   A.  When we believe, Eph. 1:13
   B.  When we live a holy life, Eph. 1:4
Application:  The proof that we are truly those chosen in Christ before the foundation of
the world is the reality of our faith which is confirmed by our lives.  Indeed, only those
who are chosen in Christ will love and love in such a way as to reflect Him in their lives!
Conclusion:  Isn’t it great to know God’s master plan is right on time!  Remember,
“chance” never caused anything to happen.  It is God who will bring his master plan to its
glorious conclusion when Jesus Christ returns.  Even so, come Lord Jesus!
