What Would You Do?
(The Nature of Hamas)
Israeli PM Sharon finds himself severely criticized for killing Palestinian Hamas leaders
while at the same time shaking hands with Palestinian PM Abbas.  For those of us
basically informed of the nature of Hamas (The Islamic Resistance Movement) and other
radical Muslim groups such as Islamic Jihad, The Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade, et al, the
idea of trying to make peace with the Palestinians on the one hand and killing them on
the other hand is difficult to understand.  Israel’s actions toward Hamas and related terror
groups might be more understandable, however, if we were to take the time to
comprehend their stated views.
Shortly after the founding of Hamas in 1987, Sheik Ahmed Yassin together with his
cohorts published their Islamic Covenant in August 1988.  Written in typical Islamic style
invoking Allah in every section, its thirty-six articles are at total odds with any Middle
East peace effort.  In addition, this Covenant gives carte blanche to all Muslims
everywhere to eradicate the State of Israel and to kill all Jews who occupy Palestine.
Allow me to quote from the Covenant itself:  “Initiatives, the so-called peaceful solutions,
and the international conferences to resolve the Palestinian problem, are all contrary to
the beliefs of the Islamic Resistance Movement.”  “Those conferences are no more than a
means to appoint the nonbelievers as arbiters in the lands of Islam.”  “When our enemies
usurp some Islamic lands, Jihad becomes a duty binding on all Muslims.  In order to face
the usurpation of Palestine by the Jews, we have no escape from raising the banner of
Total population of Israel is around six million – including about 1.2 million Arab Israelis.
Approximately 3.5 million Palestinians live in Gaza and the West Bank -- an estimated
40 % of which are sympathetic to Hamas and its allies.  If you were an Israeli, what
would you do to protect yourself against thousands of Palestinians who are committed to
exterminate you – and are actively doing it!  Certainly you would see the Wall as
common good sense – as well as the elimination of Hamas leaders and those of related
terrorist groups who have the stated goal of eliminating you – and are actively doing it!
For you it would be a war with no holds barred.
Let this be clear.  For Hamas and its allies, this current conflict has nothing to do with the
creation of a Palestinian state – an idea which they clearly reject.  For them it is all or
nothing!  The intifada has everything to do with their stated threat to eliminate the State
of Israel.  There will be war with Israel until either side is subjugated.  There is no room
for negotiations or peace agreements.  Israel will not give up its land, and Hamas plus its
allies will not give up until that land is theirs.
